Cord reach: will 12.5 or 14.3 feet get from the socket to the sofa

Cord length is measured from the plug, not from the edge of the blanket. A tape measure settles this in a minute, and the answer changes which size you should buy.

The throws state a 12.5 ft cord. The twin states 14.3 ft. One product page gives its cord as 144 or 201 inches depending on the variant, which is 12 ft or 16.75 ft, read the variant you are actually buying.

Measure from the socket

The number describes the cord, not the reach. What you need is the distance from the socket to where the controller will sit, plus enough slack that the cable is not a tripwire and is not pulling on the connector.

  1. Find the socket you will actually use, not the nearest one on the plan.
  2. Run a tape to the arm of the sofa or the side of the bed where the controller will live.
  3. Add two feet for slack and routing round furniture.
  4. Compare with 12.5 ft, or 14.3 ft for the twin.

Two questions in one place: does the cord reach, and when will the timer switch it off.

Cord length is measured from the plug: 14.3 ft on the twin, 12.5 ft on the throws, 144 or 201 inches by variant on one product page. If you use an extension lead, use a properly rated one and keep it uncoiled and visible.

The honest options are a different socket, a different side of the bed, or a different piece. An extension lead is what most people do. If you use one, use a properly rated mains extension in good condition, keep it uncoiled, and do not run it under a rug where it will be walked on and where you cannot see it.

The clock half of the question

Reach and timing are the same decision more often than people expect. If the socket is on the far side and the blanket has to sit on the near side of the bed, you will end up using a shorter timer setting so that nothing is running while you are asleep and unable to reach the controller. Decide both together.
